The India Initiative has been successful in successfully implementing some localization of mobile phones. Mobile phone manufacturers and mobile brands have established their assembly / manufacturing units by India's Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi in India to promote mobile devices production.

The Phase-Based Production Program (PMP), developed by the Government of India, is designed to maximize localization and localization of key components and related subcomponents used in mobile phones. PMP leads to real local value. Indeed, PMP can be the only major political initiative in creating an ecosystem to produce mobile phones / phones in India. Now, the PMP is ready to move to the next stage and turn it into a full-blown Association (SKD) level, which requires a high level of procurement skills and investment.

In order to achieve a new CKD-level production goal, mobile telephony technologies have begun to develop the production of electronic plata (PCBA) based on research and development, design, advanced surface-pressing technology (SMT) and, accordingly, a large and deeper production ecosystem for components. The industry is looking at this positively, with more investments in industrial design, PCBA design and surface-to-mountain technology (SMT) assembly.

According to Counterpoint Research, about 125 mobile phone manufacturers in India invested US $ 653 million in domestic production by 2016. Domestic production reached 227 million in 2017, with 79% of all phones sold in India produced in India. These figures are expected to reach 319 million in 2020, which is 93% of local sales. Thus, India can grow and become an export hub for mobile phones for SAARC, Middle East and Africa.
